'Incendiary Device' Found At Kansas Masonic Home

From the KAKE-TV website in Witchita, Kansas this morning:

The Wichita Bomb Squad has removed a suspicious package found near Downtown today.

Police were called to investigate a backpack left at the Kansas Masonic Home at 401 S. Seneca.

"The green backpack contained several differerent types of containers of flammable liquids. The containers were tied together with some type of electrical cord. We have no idea who left it there," Sgt. Steve Hiser of the Wichita Police Department said.

The call to 911 was made by one of the people who works for the Masonic Home. They opened it and saw what was inside and it looked like a possible incendiary device. "We called the explosive unit and they took it apart and rendered it safe," Hiser said.

  1. From the Executive Director of Kansas Masonic Home (who leaves that post in a few days to join the new Governor's Cabinet..)

... [A] backpack was found at the Maple and Seneca intersection- not "at Masonic Home" as the press is reporting and we [were] taking precautions just to be safe.
